Hetch Hetchy Reservoir

September 29th, 2009

Temperatures in Yosemite had been in the high 90s the day we arrived, so we started out early the next day a hike along Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, which was not far from where we stayed. Hetch Hetchy is, and I quote from Wikipedia, “a reservoir with a capacity of 360,000 acre ft and is formed by the 364 ft (111m) concrete gravity O’Shaughnessy Dam in Hetch Hetchy Valley on the Tuolomne River. It was completed in 1923 and is owned by the City and County of San Francisco.”

Last evening we watched the new PBS show on national parks, “America’s Best Idea”. It is the first of six two-hour weekly shows.

In a long segment on Yosemite, the first piece of land set aside, when they mentioned the 1890 legislation setting aside the larger Park, they mentioned that the Hetch Hetchy Valley was included, but didn’t go into the later battle over damming up the latter valley.

emmy red carpet 2009

Glamming up the red carpet, Debra Messing turned up for the 61st annual Primetime Emmys at the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (September 20).

During the night’s festivities, Neil Patrick Harris will be taking his first turn as host of the star-studded event.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Stephen Moyer, Hayden Panettiere, Patricia Arquette, Jimmy Fallon, Michael J. Fox, and Kate Walsh, among many others, have all been nabbed for presenter duties.

Looking radiant in red, the lovely actress strolled about as she greeted her fellow thespians while waving to her adoring fans.

Before NPH kicks things off and the awards are give away, the stars first need to walk the red carpet. It’s one of fashion’s biggest nights. Who will be wearing what? Who will be the fashion hits and misses? It’s almost as fun as the awards themselves.

I’ll be doing my best to bring you shots from the red carpet from just as the stars arrive. Keep checking back for more pics as I’ll be updating all the time. And be sure to be GMMR’s fashion police as the comments are open!

Fremont Solstice Parade 2009

June 20th, 2009

The Fremont Fair is the official start to the Solstice Parade while the start given by the naked cyclists is considered to be the un-official opening. For last eighteen conscutive years, the cyclists had been participating in this Parade and this year this Parade took place on June 20th, 2009.

It should be noted that, not all the participants and nude in the race, only a few cyclists in the annual ride are nude and are likely to be called as “artists”. And these cyclists , are wearing costumes in which they looked nude but are not nude in actual and called “Painted Cyclists”. These costumes gives the cyclists a naked look and the paint jobs are expertly done as the wearer seems to be naked. The cyclists used to worn costumes according to their own tastes, and the speciallity of these costumes is to change the attitude and style of the rider.

Possibly it can be said that this event is not for you, but in positive sense we should go for it, watch it and appreciate this amazing event.

But if you have no interest in watching the “Painted Cyclists”, but you are keen to see the Solstice Parade, we should come on the time appointed for the parade. this year the time for the official start was 12:00pm at noon and 11:00am was the time for the time for “Painted Cyclist” or we can say,”nudists” to race. And we should also try to reach on time and probably on the public transport to avoid the parking problems, if you are interestd to saw it next year. Another advantage is that, this Parade event took place on Saturday or Sunday and is free of cost.

google wave

May 28th, 2009

I have the feeling Google Wave is something you’re gonna have to use to really understand: In the simplest terms, it’s a live chatroom with a spread of documents, photos and/or videos, where you can reply to any part of any message or anything that’s shared, and it’s all real-time.

The idea is to drag email and IM into real-time—so it’s free-wheeling mesh of Twitter, IM, Friendfeed really, any other kind of service presenting semi-real-time stuff in a stream. But in Google Wave, you can share and collaborate on projects, and all of this is mashed together at once, so it might be the ultimate service for people with ADD, or enterprise looking to simulate the feeling of 10 people standing around a desk scattered with a bunch of projects, but you’re all able to work on any of them simultaneously while you’re also whispering to the cute girl across the table about the new sushi place around the corner. You start a wave with any message or photo or whatever, and you bring people into the discussion, and then they can bring other people in as well (unless you block it or start kicking people out) so it’s as public or private as you want it to be.

It’s easy to see why Google would jump in here—real-time is the next iteration of the internets, and everybody’s been obsessed with it since Twitter (look no further than Facebook). Not only does Wave elevate the collaborative and conversational aspect of real-time, Google’s smartly pimping it from the app side too, pushing for apps that use and run within a wave, since a service is now really only as good as it is as a platform. At least, I think that’s what this is all about. Maybe it’s just a surfing chatroom.
